EQUALITY

Which Division ?

No sooner has the season ended than everyone wants to know what division they'll be playing in next season - which is perfectly understandable but, the answer is not so easy.

Unlike the premier League there are many factors which can affect the structure of the League.

Teams drop out - New teams enter - There may be fewer teams - There may be more teams.

The deadline date for entries is not until 21st June so, with the best will in the world, we can't even begin to think about promotion and relegation until the end of June at the earliest.

Even then, some clubs find they have enough players for more teams and others find they haven't enough so, the process of juggling the size and structure of divisions goes on right up until the beginning of the season.

Although nothing is guaranteed, the main starting point is that a minimum of 2 teams will be relegated and 2 promoted (Where there are A & B Sections, there may be 4 relegated & 4 promoted).  After that, if teams have dropped out of higher divisions, then there may be room to promote more than 2.  On the other hand there may be room to fit new teams into higher divisions.

In addition, it's not uncommon for teams to request relegation because they have lost some of their better players and feel they would be out of the their depth by staying put.

One of the main tasks for the committee is trying to ensure that teams play in divisions with other teams of similar quality and, therefore, promotion and relegation often extends beyond 2 up and 2 down.

To enable us to try to allocate teams to suitable divisions, we need feedback.
Teams often change from season to season.
They may lose players (making them weaker) or sign new players (stronger).
The League Committee is not automatically aware of these changes and we need you to tell us.

When you send your entry form, please include notes on the strengths and/or weaknesses of EVERY TEAM at your club.

e.g...

u11... Finished 3rd bottom and lost players – would be better going down a division (or 2)

u12... Finished mid-table – No change – prefer to stay in same division.

u13... Finished mid-table but lost players – prefer to go down a division if possible.

u14... Finished 3rd top – prefer not to go up.

Please try to be realistic - “Although we finished 6th in Div 2, we think we could do well in Div 1” is likely to be over-optimism.
Likewise, “We finished bottom but would prefer to stay up” – Why would you want another season of struggle ?

While there are no guarantee’s, all such requests are given serious consideration.
It’s a massive help if we know what you want.
This applies to all age groups.
